A: The 8-digit My VIP ID can be used at the University of South
Carolina as an alternative to the USC Identification number (your
Social Security Number) when logging into VIP, the University's
system-wide intranet/portal at http://vip.sc.edu. This new ID number is
automatically generated for active students, staff, and faculty
members and is a unique and permanent number that identifies each
member of the University community.
To find out your 8-digit My VIP ID, you must initially log on
to VIP using your USC Identification number (your Social Security
Number) and PIN (the 4-digit number), and from the personal link,
establish a password to accompany the My VIP ID. From that

NOTE: My VIP ID is NOT the same as your Network Username/password.
Q: Is My VIP ID a replacement for my Social Security Number in the
University's administrative system?
A: No. USC will maintain the 9-digit University Identification
Number (SSN) as the key identifier in student, business, and human
resource systems until the conversion to a new student and
administrative information system has been completed. The
My VIP ID will be connected to the SSN for retrieval purposes. The
University of South Carolina will continue to collect and maintain

associated with the University as required by law.

My VIP ID and will then employ a special procedure to retrieve your
SSN for system processing. Authorized administrative staff in other
